Strict laws regarding vehicle insurance, vehicle testing and the driver’s licence bind a driver guide.

Vehicle Insurance

Whenever a vehicle is offered for hire with a driver for payment additional insurance cover is required by law.  This is sometimes called Hire & Reward but more properly known as Private Hire Insurance.  The guides listed as Driver Guides have provided proof that they have that cover.

Some insurance policies say “social domestic and pleasure” and include cover for use “in connection with the policy holders business”. This can NOT be interpreted as cover for driver-guiding

Drivers

Anyone wishing to act as a Driver/Guide falls within the Private Hire Legislation of Transport Licensing and is effectively a Private Hire Taxi Driver.
